PUEBLO, Colo. - The Hawks rounded out the trip west with a match against the Thunderwolves of Colorado State University - Pueblo on Saturday (Mar. 16) before beginning the run of the conference gantlet next week. Quincy was firing on all cylinders, boasting a trio of scorers that found the back of the net four times in
Eli Cowan,
Christian Czarny and
Caidyn Prediger to fuel a 17-6 drubbing of CSU-Pueblo.
QU opened the scoring about 40 seconds into the contest on a goal from Prediger off a feed from
Neal Dardis before Czarny netted his first, assisted by
Jayme Brain, to make it 2-0 just over seven minutes into the match. Pueblo entered the scoring column at the 1:08 mark before a goal from Brain with 11 seconds remaining boosted Quincy to a 3-1 advantage after the first 15.
Blaine Lowrance joined the fun to open the scoring in the second, finding nylon a couple minutes into the period on a dish from
Haakon Steen. CSU mustered a pair of goals to cut the lead to 4-3 followed by a trifecta of QU scores off the sticks of
Mason Marano,
Austin Vetter and another for Czarny, this time of the man-up variety, to push the Quincy edge back to 7-3. The Thunderwolves converted on another score as the quarter closed to give the Hawks a 7-4 advantage heading into the half.
Pueblo looked to make things interesting to kick off the second half, taking the initiative with the first goal of the third period to cut the lead to two. It was all Quincy after that, allowing a single goal in the final 27 minutes of the match paired with nine consecutive goals between the 11:09 and 11:34 marks of the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
Czarny scored the first of four-straight man-up goals for the Hawks before Prediger went back-to-back-to-back to bolster the lead to 11-5. Shortly after, Czarny scored again followed by a goal for
Sean Usher and another successful man-up chance ending in a goal for
Eli Cowan for a 14-5 advantage after the third quarter.
Cowan rode the heater into the fourth, building upon his late score in the third with two more to open the fourth quarter giving the freshman a hat-trick in a little of four minutes of game time. CSUP made its last mark on the match at the 9:42 mark of the fourth, converting a man-up opportunity for its final score of the contest.
Still not finished and hungry for more, Cowan scored the final goal of the match with a little over six minutes remaining as the Frisco, TX native netted the Hawks final four goals of the game and every score of the fourth quarter to give his side a convincing 17-6 victory.
