Hawks Stay Close with Eagles; Fall in Final Quarter

Ashland, Ohio - The Quincy University women's lacrosse team finished its spring break trip at Ashland University, facing a tough Eagles team and losing 13-12.

The Eagles struck first with a goal off a successful clearance, but Hawks came back quickly. Elise Bruggeman scored the first off the contest, collecting a rebound off of Alaina Wilkinson's initial shot. Senior attack Danielle Robinson got her first of five for the day off a pass from Amelia Ham

After giving a few more to the Eagles, Patricia Chavira started a three-goal train from the Hawks. Emily Leal buried the next two goals to finish out the quarter, one of which was a woman-up free position shot. Kelly McClure had a key free position save in the final minutes of the quarter to maintain the Hawks' lead.

Leal scored her third goal of the contest halfway through the second, followed by Robinson's second goal, woman-up. The birds were tied going into the second half despite a 17-11 shot differential in favor of the Hawks.

Leal struck again on a quick transition, this time with help from Chavira. The Hawks and Eagles battled for the lead in the third, going goal-for-goal with one another. Leal passed off to Amelia Ham, scoring her first goal of the game to regain the lead. Robinson finished the scoring for the Hawks with three goals--one assisted by Ham, one woman-down, and one to end the contest.

McClure recorded nine saves in the contest and led the team with six ground balls.

After some time back home, the Hawks head back out to Grand Rapids, Michigan for their final away non-conference game against Davenport University on March 23rd.
