Evansville, Ind. - The Quincy University softball program swept the day Saturday (Feb. 24) with wins over GMAC opponents Cedarville and Walsh. The Hawks had eight hits for six runs in the 6-3 win over the Walsh Cavaliers.
Abbey Hultz started for the Hawks Saturday afternoon. Quincy allowed two on-base singles before forcing a runner out at third. Hultz finished the inning with a bases loaded strikeout to keep the goose eggs on the scoreboard.
The Cavaliers got one through in the second inning, but the Hawks responded with an RBI single from
Kenzie Moss that sent
Allyson Maynard home.
The Hawks really got going in the fourth inning with a strong defense and an electric offense.
Allison Kaiser found a pocket in center with bases loaded, sending
Ryleigh Jones and
Mykah Hurley home. Even after a Cavalier pitching change, the Hawks continued to put runs on the scoreboard. Kaiser and
Greta Specht stole, moving into scoring position.
Isabella Shields sent a ball to the grass bringing the duo in to top the Cavaliers 5-1. The Hawks scored one more run in the fourth inning off an error and sealed the deal for their side of the scoreboard.
Eileen McGinnis replaced
Abbey Hultz at the top of the sixth inning, striking out two batters over five innings. The Hawks kept the Cavaliers to one run through to the top of the seventh inning when Walsh returned two runners to the dugout.
The Hawks stay local next weekend at the Illinois Springfield Invitational in Springfield, Illinois.
