QUINCY, Ill. - The Hawks looked to get back on the the right track after a couple of losses to a dangerous Maryville team and a hiccup against Rockhurst while on the road last week. Quincy needed to get right in its contest against the Pioneers of Malone and that is precisely what happened. QU dropped a 20 piece with five players scoring two or more goals in a 20-12 defeat of MU.
Quincy kicked around the idea of scoring for a couple minutes before delivering three of them all at once with goals from
Caleb Hensley,
Caidyn Prediger and
Mason Marano coming within a 30 second span.
Christian Czarny scored his first of the match on a feed from
Zackary Springborn to build the advantage to four before the Pioneers scored their first of the match just under eight minutes into the match.
Blaine Lowrance netted the final score for the Hawks of the first quarter along with another score from MU to make it 5-2 after 15 minutes.
The second quarter was the highest scoring of the period with four scores from Malone and eight for Quincy. Czarny and Hensley added their second goals of the contest along with a score from
Connor Nock for a 8-2 advantage. MU sandwiched an
Austin Vetter goal with two of its own before
John Jennings got his first of two goals on the day to push QU to double digits at 10-4.
The Pioneers added another score followed by goals for Czarny,
Mason Luoma and
Raymond Lingard along with another Malone goal closing out the high scoring frame to give the Hawks a 13-6 advantage at the break.
MU put up the first point of the second half until goals from
Sean Usher and
Gage Evans along with another for Vetter put Quincy in fine shape leading 16-7. Malone claimed the final two goals of the third period to narrow the deficit to seven with 15 minutes to play.
Lowrance netted his second of the contest to open the scoring in the fourth. The Pioneers responded with a pair of their own goals to pull within six before another run of three goals from the Hawks made it 20-11. Czarny's fourth, Lowrance's third and Jennings's second goals of the contest made up the QU run. Malone netted the matches last score at the 5:20 mark to give Quincy a 20-12 victory.
Ryan Riggs picked up the win, turning away 12 shots in 47 minutes of work.
