Hawks Send Rangers back to the Forest

Smyrna, Tenn. - Bouncing back from a season opening loss, the Quincy softball team ended the day .500 with a win over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers. The Hawks found their groove behind pitcher KJ Weller, overtaking the Rangers 5-3.

The junior got the start this afternoon and only gave up two earned runs and one unearned run in the first inning. Quincy found its groove after Allyson Maynard hit a double to center field and Maddy Findley brought her home. Lindsey Fischer sent Isabella Shields across the plate shortly before Findley came home off a Jessie Martin infield single.

Quincy kept the Rangers off the scoreboard for the remainder of the day behind Weller, who struck out three batters, two looking. Quincy came out strong in the fifth inning, starting with Fischer's triple to center field. Allison Kaiser sent Fischer back to the plate after a single-turned error.

It took the Hawks just three singles in the sixth inning to add another run to the scoreboard. Quincy kept the Rangers off the scoreboard for six innings, securing the win 5-3.

The Hawks look to continue success in a doubleheader at Trevecca Nazarene University Monday (Feb. 19). First pitch will be at 2pm with the second game to follow.
