Smyrna, Tenn. - The Quincy University softball program opened its season in the Music City Invitational in Nashville this weekend, starting the season off with a loss to the Davenport University Panthers. Errors and hits in the pockets fueled the Panthers to a 14-2 victory.
Senior
Abbey Hultz started in the circle for the Hawks and took the first three innings of the game. A set of singles gave Davenport their points in the first inning, while an infield error helped a third Panther touch home plate.
After eight runs in the first three innings, senior
Eileen McGinnis entered the circle for the Hawks. McGinnis and company kept the Panthers to one run across two innings.
Quincy earned their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Mykah Hurley reached second on a throwing error and
Isabella Shields sent one up the middle to put both her and Hurley in scoring position.
Kenzie Moss hit one up the middle as well to bring Hurley home. Moss was thrown out when stealing, but gave Shields an opportunity to score.
The Panthers were hot in the sixth inning, scoring their remaining five runs on three hits, ending the game to run rule.
The Hawks played shortly after against University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
