Men's Wrestling Take Part in Midwest Classic

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Hawks made the trip east to Indy for their final event of 2024 at the Midwest Classic, hosted by UIndy on Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 16 & 17).

The Hawks picked up eight wins from five wrestlers, getting a pair victories from Brian Farley in 125, as well as Sabian Russell in 141 and Caleb Groff in 285. Callan Ivy and Hunter Vernon also added victories at 184 and 157.

There were 43 teams at the tournament with an unending supply of national talent as over 30 teams recognized by the NWCA DII national poll as ranked or receiving votes made the trip to Indianapolis.

Sabian Russell advanced the farthest for the Hawks, making it to the fifth round of the consolation bracket, just two matches away from a placement match in the star-studded Midwest Classic 141 field.

Brian Farley and Caleb Groff were the only two Hawks to win their opening match of the championship round without receiving a bye, as Farley took down Brent Bosley of Wheeling by tech fall 18-1 in 125 action while Groff took down Willie Cox of Montevallo by major decision 14-1 at 285.

QU picked up 18.5 points as a squad, finishing in 34th position overall, ahead of two teams receiving votes in the national poll and one spot behind #19 UNC Pembroke.

The Hawks resume their season in early January, traveling to Rock Island, IL for the Augustana College Duals on Saturday, January, 4th. Action is set to start at 9:00 AM.
