Box Score Williamsville, Ill. - The Hawks bid at a GLVC crown came to an end on Saturday afternoon as QU dropped a dog fight of a match to Rockhurst in the semifinal round of the conference tournament, nearly coming all the way back for the reverse sweep in a five-set loss (19-25, 23-25, 25-15, 25-23, 12-15).
Set One
Rockhurst got off to a hot start, taking eight of the first 10 points to lead by six before a three-point Quincy run later in the set halved the deficit at 9-6.
RU quickly replenished the advantage to five at 12-7 and never allowed QU any closer than four points for the remainder of the set, going on to claim the first frame 25-19.
Set Two
Five of the first six points went in favor of Rockhurst before a three-point QU run on kills from
Susanna Beretti,
Luna Van Baars and libero,
Janelle Pye-Blacknard pulled Quincy back within one.
QU evened the score shortly after at 7-7, but was unable to move ahead as RU replenished it's lead with a four-point run shortly after to lead 12-8.
The Hawks pulled back to even the score at the 14-14 mark and again late in the set at 22-22, but Rockhurst came through in the crunch time to take the second set 25-23.
Set Three
After falling behind 5-3, a five-point QU run put the Hawks ahead by three. RU responded with a four-point run to regain the advantage as both sides traded points to a 12-11 score in favor of Rockhurst.
Quincy runs of five and three points put the Hawks in prime position with a 20-13 lead as QU went on to take the set 25-15, closed out by blocks from Van Baars and
Zeynep Cetin.
Set Four
Neither side was able to get much going early on as neither team lead by more than two points for the first 24 points of the set. Behind 11-10, a four-point RU run signaled the largest lead of the set to that point as Rockhurst maintained the advantage until the 19-17 mark, where a six-point run propelled Quincy ahead 23-19 heading down the stretch.
RU took the next three points to narrow the margin to one at 23-22 before the sides traded the final three points for a 25-23 winner for QU.
Set Five
Three of the first five points of the set went to Rockhurst, prompting Quincy runs of two and three to put QU ahead 6-4.
RU responded with a four-point run to pull ahead 8-6, holding on to a slim 10-9 advantage shortly after before using another four-point run to move ahead 14-9.
The Hawks of Quincy didn't go quietly, getting kills from Beretti and
Emma Wijnbergen along with an ace from
Elena Kasavica to pull within two at 14-12 before surrendering the final point of the match in a 15-12 set and 3-2 match loss.

Sitting at 25-5 on the season and ranked fifth in the latest NCAA DII Midwest Region Poll, the Hawks are a likely candidate for at-large selection to their third straight NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament but will have to await their fate until Selection Monday arrives on November, 25.
