Romeoville, Ill. - The Quincy University women's swim team completed their road weekend in Chicagoland with a dual meet against the Lewis University Flyers on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 19).
The Hawks struggled to swim past the a strong Flyers team on Saturday. The first few individual events saw the Flyers placing first, second, and third without a Hawk in sight. Bella Sparrow was the first to break the top three with a 2:01.34 in the 200 freestyle. She later got second place in the 100 freestyle with a sub-minute time of 55.32 seconds.
Vanja Vrbanec placed third in the 50 freestyle with a 26.42 time. Ola Pucarevic placed second in the 100 butterfly with a sub-minute time, good for third in Hawks program history.
Ellie Benjamin continued to make a name for herself in Hawks swimming history with the second fastest time in program history in the 400 IM at 4:42.33.
The 100-yard backstroke was a tight race with
Faith Cummings, Benjamin, and
Shelby Smith all finishing within a second of each other and only one second away from Lewis' Kiersten Smith who finished first in the event.
Celine Lehnard nabbed her first second place finish of the season in the 100 breaststroke finishing in 1:13.23.
The Hawks finished with the 200 freestyle relay where the quad of Sparrow, Sheth, Smith, and Pucarevic finished in second at 1:42.77.
The Hawks had a great showing in back-to-back meets against some national-caliber teams. The Hawks look to continue their splash in the season with their first home meet against the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees on October 26th.
