QUINCY, Ill. – The Hawks and Saints went toe-to-toe in a doubleheader at QU Stadium on Friday, April 7th. QU would take both games in different fashions by the scores of 14-6 and 6-5.
Game 1
After a quiet first inning for both sides, the Hawks struck first as Nolan Wosman sent a solo home run over the left field wall. A few batters later, Brock Boynton singled down the left field line to bring hoke Zach Parks.
The Hawks added 6 runs in their half of the 3rd inning capped off by a Dustin Dupont 3 run home run to left field. They would lead 8-0 through 3 innings.
Maryville added a 3 run home run of their own to make it an 8-3 game. In the bottom of the 5th, QU took advantage of timely hitting and a couple of Maryville errors to put 5 more runs on the board. Most notably, Luke Napleton doubled down the left field line that scored Gino D'Alessio which extended the lead to 9 runs at 12-3.
The Saints got to within 13-6, but Dupont would hit his 2nd home run of the contest to make it a 14-6 game.

Game 2
The nightcap of the doubleheader was pitchers' duel in the early going. Maryville took the 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning on a solo home run. It took until the 5th inning for the Hawks to get on the board as Brock Boynton hit a 2 run home run to right field that scored Logan Voth.
Unfortunately, the Hawks would have to battle back as the Saints scored 4 runs in the top of the 6th inning to make it a 5-2 ballgame.
QU would not go down without a fight. Wosman hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Austin Simpson. The next batter, Dustin Dupont hit a 3 run blast down the left field line to give the Hawks the lead back at 6-5.
Chase Gockel worked around a walk and an error to close the door and pick up his 2nd save on the season.
