Quincy, Ill. – The Quincy University men's lacrosse team came up short in a 15-10 loss against the Davenport University Panthers on Saturday (Apr. 22).
The Panthers pounced at the start of the game, scoring six unanswered goals. Quincy flipped the switch in the second quarter when
Blaine Lowrance found
Jordan Ernst's unmarked run for the first goal of the game.
Ernst's goal sparked more physicality from both sides. A hard hit on Davenport's Trent Eichbauer led to four unsportsmanlike conducts. The man-up opportunity paved the way for
Donald Griffith to score the team's second goal of the contest. Griffith cranked another into the net later in the quarter. The Hawks scored two more goals in the second quarter:
Jordan Ernst found
Ty Gillitzer on the door step to put in the first, and quick pass from
Jayme Brain behind the net put
John Jennings free on the wing for the last goal of the quarter.
Brain continued the scoring train for the Hawks in the third quarter with two goals. Before Quincy could find the net again,
Donald Griffith sent in a blazing shot that took off the head of a Davenport's player's stick. Griffith took the energy from breaking the stick to assist
Jayme Brain in a man-up goal shortly after.
Jordan Ernst ended the quarter with another man-up goal from a
Nick Woodworth assist.
The Hawks shut out the Panthers in the final quarter of play. Griffith ended with another unassisted goal and a man-up goal off a
Blaine Lowrance assist.
Ryan Riggs fought hard in goal today with 19 saves, the most he has made this season.
