TOWN AND COUNTRY, Mo. – The Hawks hit the road to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play against the Maryville University Saints. Battling gusty winds for the majority of the contest, the Saints won by the score of 14-7.
The Saints jumped out to a 4-0 lead nine minutes into the contest. Donald Griffith got the Hawks on the board on an assist from Mason Marano. Early in the 2nd quarter, Jordan Ernst cut the Maryville lead to 4-2 off a pass from Nick Woodworth.
The Saints answered with 3 goals to make it 7-2. QU got the deficit back to 3 with goals from Woodworth and Blaine Lowrance. Despite Maryville making it an 8-4 game, Griffith rifled a shot into the top corner of the net with 19 seconds left in the half to make the game 8-5.
Maryville scored 4 unanswered goals in the 3rd quarter as Quincy failed to score in the stanza.
With 15 minutes left to play, there looked to be a glimpse of hope for a Hawk comeback. Lowrance scored two goals in a span of 90 seconds to get the score to within 12-7. The Saints added two goals to finalize the scoring.
