QUINCY, Ill.- The Quincy University Baseball team played a doubleheader on Saturday (March 25) against the Truman State University Bulldogs. The Hawks would sweep the day as they win the first game 6-2 and the second game 4-1.
Game 1
Quincy would waste no time scoring. After Griffin Kirn struck out the side in the top half of the first inning, the Hawks offense would score a run in the bottom half after Lance Logsdon would hit a 2 out single, followed by a couple of walks and a wild pitch would give QU an early 1-0 lead.
Logan Voth would start the bottom of the second inning with a bang as he would hit his first career home run to right center field, extending the Quincy lead to 2-0. A Luke Napleton two out single followed by a Lance Logsdon double would add another run to the Hawks lead making it 3-0.
Griffin Kirn would keep the Bulldogs offense quiet through 4 innings but would run into a little bit of trouble in the top of the fifth as a couple singles and walks would bring in one run making it a 3-1 game. Chase Gockel would come in to relief. A wild pitch would make it a 3-2 game but he would get out of the inning with the lead.
The Hawks offense would strike for three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after Gino D'Alessio would hit a sacrifice fly followed by a Luke Napleton two run home run, his team leading 13th of the year extending the lead to 6-2.
Looking to close out the game Gockel would hit the lead off hitter, but follow that up with a pop out to third base, a strike out and finally a fly out to right field to end the game and give Quincy a 6-2 win in the first game of the double header.

Game 2
Kobe Essien would be dominant to start off the second game of the day for the Hawks. After walking the lead off hitter in the first he would strike out the next batter. Another walk in the inning would put two on for the Bulldogs but Essien would strike out the next two batters to end the inning.
Quincy would go down in order in the bottom of the first but after Essien struck out the side in the top of the second once again. QU would strike for three runs in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a sacrifice fly from Dustin Dupont followed by a two out two RBI single by Gino D'Alessio to make it 3-0 Hawks.
It would be a quiet couple innings as neither teams did much offensively. But the Hawks would score another run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Lance Logsdon RBI single. This would give Quincy a 4-0 lead.
The Bulldogs would score one run in the top of the sixth inning but Elijah Ecton would come in to relief and get out of the inning. Brett Panick would come in to close out the game in the top of the seventh inning. Panick would pitch a one, two, three inning while striking out two batters as the Hawks would win the game 4-1 and officially win the series.
Quincy will be back in action against Truman State University tomorrow, Sunday (March 25) as they close out the series while also looking to sweep the weekend series. First pitch is set for 12:00 pm.
