Hawks End Weekend Sweep With a Bang

QUINCY, Ill.- The Quincy University Baseball team would close out the four game series against the Truman State University Bulldogs on Sunday (March 26th). The Hawks offense would explode and put up a 20 spot on the Bulldogs as they swept the weekend series and won the final game 20-7 in seven innings. 

The Hawks offense would waste no time scoring as Nolan Wosman would hit a two run home run in the bottom of the first inning giving QU an early 2-0 lead. After Jay Hammel put up another scoreless inning in the top of the second Quincy would strike for two more runs in the bottom half off a two run home run from Gino D'Alessio

Jay Hammel would run in a little bit of trouble in the top of the third inning, but he would limit the damage and get out of it only allowing two runs to score. In the bottom half of the third inning the Hawks offense would score another two runs, this time it would be off the bat of Austin Simpson as he would deposit a ball 380 feet over the right center field wall for another two run home run making it a 6-2 game. 

QU would blow the game wide open in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Lance Logsdon and Nolan Wosman would hit back to back bombs to start off the inning. Zach Parks would come in to pinch hit and hit a two run home run over the right field wall later in the inning. After a hit by pitch Brock Boynton would also join the party with a two run home run of his own making it a 12-3 game. 

Quincy wasn't done yet as they would bat around in the bottom of the sixth inning and put up 8 runs on the board. Connor Simmons would pinch hit and deliver an RBI single. Zach Parks would draw a bases loaded walk, followed by a Brock Boynton two RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly from Gino D'Alessio. Harry Fandre would hit his first career base hit bringing in another run for the Hawks.

Jay Hammel would go 5.0 strong innings while striking out five. Tim Reinholz and Carter Endisch would throw an inning each to close out the game as the Hawks would run rule the Bulldogs 20-7 in 7 innings. 

Quincy will be back in action on Friday (March 31) as they travel to Springfield, Illinois for another GLVC series against University of Illinois Springfield. First pitch is set for 2:00pm.
