Hawks Down Cardinals in 13-7 Road Win

WHEELING, Wv. – The Quincy University Men's Lacrosse team used a huge third quarter to come away with a win against the Cardinals of Wheeling University on Friday (Feb. 17) in Wheeling, WV. The Hawks used seven third quarter goals to break the game open and take the 4:00 p.m. (EST) contest by a score of 13-7.

The first half of the match was low in scoring and tight in contention. The first quarter saw it's first goal at the 8:39 mark, scored by QU's Donald Griffith from Caidyn Prediger to give Quincy a 1-0 advantage.

Wheeling scored the next two goals, the first with 18 seconds remaining in the first frame to draw the score at 1-1. WU added another less than a minute into the second to go up 2-1.
Ty Gillitzer found the back of the net at the 13:10 mark, good for the last goal of the half and pulling the Hawks back into a 2-2 after 30 minutes of play.

Gillitzer got the offensive explosion going early in the third with another goal at the 13:40 mark to put Quincy up 3-2. Next, Jordan Ernst added two of his six goals, both assisted by Mason Marano, to put QU up three scores at 5-2.

Blaine Lowrance and Donald Griffith got their names into the scoring column next, both dished by Prediger to push the lead even further to 7-2. Ernst closed out the eight goal scoring run for the Hawks that started back in the second quarter with two more goals at 2:57 and 2:11 to balloon the lead up to 9-2.

The Cardinals showed some life at the end of the third, getting two back from QU on two last minute goals with 35 seconds and three seconds remaining to bring the score to 9-4 heading into the final 15 minutes.

Goals from Lowrance and Prediger bookended by two more scores for Ernst in the fourth pushed the Quincy scoring total up to 13. The Hawks outscored WU 4-3 in the last period to close out a comfortable 13-7 road win.

The Hawks have a quick turnaround, back on the road tonight and in action once again tomorrow afternoon, Saturday (Feb. 18) for a 1:00 p.m. (EST) contest in Canton, OH  facing off with the Pioneers of Malone University.
