Sprint Football Hands Bellarmine First Loss on Senior Day

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University sprint football team played host to the Knights of Bellarmine University for Week Seven MSFL action at QU Stadium. The Hawks dealt the Knights their first loss of the season, spreading the ball to four different players for touchdowns in a 28-18 winner to close out the regular season.

Bellarmine found the end zone on the first drive of the game, utilizing a 47-yard rush in their seven play, 72-yard scoring drive to lead it 7-0 four minutes into the contest.

Quincy quickly answered, scoring on its first drive, as it often does, making use of the legs of Chance Newton for six rushes and a big 26-yard connection from Deuce Allaway to Xavier Carr for the equalizing touchdown following a Kaden Kaimann successful PAT to make it 7-7 with 5:24 left in the first.

The Knights drove down to the QU three-yard line before the end of the first quarter. QU came back out to start the second quarter with a big sack to complete the goal-line stand and hold BU to just a field goal, making it 10-7 early in the second.

The Hawks responded to the Bellarmine field goal with a scoring drive of their own, taking the ball 77 yards on seven plays for the score. A pass interference call, along with two rushes from Allaway and three rushes for 43 yards and a touchdown for CJ Jackson made it 14-10 Quincy, following another successful PAT from Kaimann.

Neither side made another appearance on the scoreboard until midway through the third frame, when the Hawks found the end zone, once again. Starting at their own 28-yard line, two Jackson rushes for 19 yards, passes for 18 and 28 yards to Camden Pye and Nasir Carson, capped by a six-yard Allaway scamper for the touchdown put QU up 21-10 with 7:34 left in the third.

Quincy got an interception of Bellarmine QB, Luke Worley, by Victor Valenzuela on the ensuing drive, but weren't able to capitalize on it, taking a 21-10 lead to the fourth quarter.

BU started the fourth quarter in a second and goal situation at the three-yard line, building off of its drive at the end of the third frame for a touchdown to make it 21-16. A successful two-point conversion from the Knights made it 21-18 just under a minute into the quarter.

In similar fashion to the prior score, QU answered the Knights putting points on the board with points of its own. Jackson rushed three times for 28 yards, Travon Hegler-Wright added a six-yard run and Nick Manzo found Exavier Hinton for the 25-yard score to make it 28-18 with 10:33 left in the fourth. The Hawks held off the Knights for the remainder of the game to preserve a 28-18 victory on senior day.

Quincy is back in action next week for MSFL Playoff action, coming in as the three seed with a 5-2 record on the season.
