Sprint Football Moves to 3-1 with Win Over Midway

QUINCY, Ill. - The Hawks followed up winning effort last week with another this week, playing host to the Eagles of Midway University at QU Stadium on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 7). Quincy used a big first quarter and a strong defensive effort to come away with a 24-7 victory.

QU got it started from the get go, using a Nassir Carson 32-yard return to start its first drive on the Eagles 47. Chance Newton carried the first play from scrimmage 47 yards to the end zone for a touchdown with just 15 seconds off the game clock. Kaden Kaimann knocked in the PAT for a 7-0 Hawks lead and third straight week Quincy has scored on its opening drive.

The Hawks got the ball right back on the ensuing kickoff. A 52-yard boot off the leg of Kaimann, followed up by a fumble from the Eagles gave the Hawks the ball once against at the 14:39 mark in the first.

MU put its first and only points of the game on the board at the 8:53 mark of the first quarter, knotting the score at 7-7. QU answered on the very next drive, finding the end zone in just three plays.

Starting on their own 45-yard line, quarterback, Deuce Allaway, found Carson twice, leading to the Quincy score. First for 13 yards to creep into Midway territory, and then for 45 yards, following a sack, to the end zone to make it 14-7 Quincy and conclude the scoring in the first half.

The Hawks did the rest of their scoring in the third quarter. First, a 27-yard field goal from Kaimann to press the advantage to double digits at 17-7, then a fumble recovery and return for a touchdown from Ray Lingard on the following Midway drive to make it 24-7.

Quincy gets a week off next week, before traveling to Saint Mary of the Woods IN, to take on Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College on Saturday (Oct. 21) for a 1:00 PM contest.
