Sprint Football Drops Road Contest to SMWC

Box Score WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Quincy University sprint football team traveled east to Indiana to take on the Pomeroys of Saint Mary of the Woods College in week five MSFL action. The Hawks fell to 3-2 on the season with a 28-14 defeat at the hands of SMWC.

The Pomeroys received the opening kickoff and used a 53-yard return to the Quincy 27 to open with excellent field position. Five plays later, SMWC found the end zone for the first score of the game along with a PAT to make it 7-0 at the 12:40 mark of the first quarter.

The Hawks were not able to score on their opening drive, breaking their three game streak of scoring on their first opportunity.

Saint Mary used a big fourth down stop to give its offense a great field position for its second drive, starting at the QU 32-yard line. Following a 2-yard tackle for loss by Ray Lingard, a 34-yard touchdown run put the Pomeroys ahead 14-0 five minutes into the contest.

Quincy answered with a touchdown drive of its own, traveling 80 yards on eight plays for the score. Two plays into the drive at the QU 16, Deuce Allaway found Camden Pye for a 72-yard connection down to the Saint Mary 12.

A mess of penalties found the Hawks with a fourth and seven at the SMWC nine-yard line. Allaway found Nasir Carson for eight yards and the first down at the Pomeroy one-yard line, followed by a one-yard tote to the end zone by CJ Jackson to make it 14-7 after a successful PAT from Kaden Kaimann

Saint Mary scored the only points of the second quarter, finding the end zone to take a 21-7 lead into halftime.

Quincy opened the second half with a scoring drive to draw within a touchdown. The Hawks favored the ground attack in the first drive of the third quarter, running the ball all six of the plays leading to the score. Allaway twice for 10 yards and Jackson with four totes for 42 yards, including the 20-yard touchdown scamper, his second score of the game, to make it 21-14 at the 12:35 mark.

SMWC put the final points of the contest on the board with a 13-yard touchdown reception with 3:14 left in the third quarter to give the Pomeroy's a 28-14 victory.

The Hawks look to get back to their winning ways next Saturday (Oct. 28) in Oakland City, IN, taking on the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City University for a 1:00 PM MSFL showdown.
