Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University women's soccer team hosted the Drury University Panthers on Friday (Oct. 6). Continuing their unbeaten conference record, the Panthers shut down the Hawks 4-0.
Overall, the match was even from a possession perspective. The Hawks spent about half of the game at midfield or in their attacking half. The Panthers found success in their ability to convert forward play into shots on net.
The lone goal from the first half occurred when a Panthers winger slotted the ball past freshman
Eva Norris, hitting the back post netting. Despite the lack in shots on goal in the first half, the Hawks had opportunities to take the ball to goal, but struggled to connect with each other.
Both teams fought hard through the first ten minutes of the second half until Drury found a fast break behind the defense, putting a speedy Panther against Norris one-v-one. The third goal of the contest was a one-touch finish after a blocked shot. The Panthers pushed one more past the Hawks to seal the deal on Friday, 4-0.
Norris was busy in goal today, facing 24 shots--13 on net--and making 9 saves.
The Hawks will be back on Sunday looking to break their losing streak and to celebrate seniors
Claire Macy,
Sophie Shackleton, and Madison and
Grace Ledbetter during senior day. The senior ceremony will begin around 11:40 with the game to follow at noon.
