Sprint Football Defeats Oakland City 20-8

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. - The Hawks traveled to the Hoosier State for a second straight week, for a matchup with the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City University in week six MSFL action. Quincy found the end zone and kept OCU from doing so in three of four quarters for a 20-8 win to right the ship and move to 4-2 on the season.

For the fourth time in six games this season, QU found pay dirt in its first drive of the contest. Following a penalty on OCU for 12 men on the field to open the game, the Hawks started at the Mighty Oaks 49 yard line.

CJ Jackson handled the brunt of the work in the scoring effort, carrying the ball six of the seven Hawk plays for 48 yards. Neither side scored for the remainder of the quarter, trading punts and turnover on downs.

The second quarter, although the only frame to not feature a score, was still action packed for both defenses. During OCU's first drive, Victor Valenzuela picked off Mighty Oaks QB, Jacob Lee, at the 13:11 mark. Following an unsuccessful drive from the Hawks, Antwan Rocquemore forced and recovered a fumble for Quincy.

Deuce Allaway was intercepted in the waning seconds of the frame, attempting a heave from midfield that found the arms of an Oakland City defender to send both sides to the locker room for halftime.

Following an unsuccessful drive from the Mighty Oaks, Exavier Hinton returned a 30-yard punt from the OCU 42 for a touchdown. Following a missed PAT, the Hawks led 13-0 with 9:12 left in the third. Austin Moore halted an Oakland City drive at the QU 9 yard line with an interception to preserve the 13-0 advantage.

The Hawks found the end zone in their opening drive of the final frame. It was the CJ Jackson show, once again, with the QU running back getting a touch on every play of the drive. Eight rushes for 50 yards and his second score of the game made it 20-0 following a PAT from Kaden Kaimann

The Might Oaks answered with a speedy scoring drive in response, using a 46-yard rush, a penalty and a 16-yard reception for the score in just 23 seconds to make it 20-8 and end the scoring in the game.

QU plays the role of host in its final game of the season, welcoming former GLVC foe, the Knights of Bellarmine University, for a 7:00 PM MSFL showdown at QU Stadium on Saturday (Nov. 4).
