Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University swim program hosted its first of two swim meets for the season on Saturday, October 21. Saturday's event was a tri-meet featuring GLVC opponents Maryville University and Rockhurst University. Quincy did extremely well in many events, topping Maryville 206-39 (men) and 177-46 (women) and falling to a strong Rockhurst squad 145-114 (men) and 145-105 (women).
The Hawks placed top-two in 21 of the 28 events, seven of which were first place finishes.
Faith Cummings swept the women's breaststroke races with two first place finishes, the 100 yard race being her season best time. The Hawks swept each 200 medley relays, the men beating Rockhurst by just .26 seconds. Bella Sparrow won the 100 backstroke with her season best as well.
The Hawks gained major points with back-to-back finishes in the men's 200 breaststroke, the women's 200 freestyle, the men's 100 butterfly, and the men's 200 freestyle.
Wyatt Walsh and
Andrej Golubovic went one and two in the 200 breaststroke. Claire McDavis,
Megan Schill, and Elisa Armentia Molihner went second, third, and fourth in the 200 freestyle, all finishing within a second of each other. The men's 200 freestyle had
Victor Abram,
Keaton Weaver,
Jeronimo Martinez Barragan, and
Bryce LaFollette all finishing in places second through fifth. Similar fate occurred in the 100 butterfly with
Borna Kisasondi,
Martiniano Montero,
Ethan Anderson,
Nolan May, Matteo Paez Melo, and
Santiago Leiva finishing second through seventh.
Quincy had three swimmers with personal bests.
Santiago Leiva won the 50 freestyle with a 21.03.
Andrej Golubovic's second place finish in the 100 breaststroke was his personal best at 1:00.07. Freshman
Ariaa Sheth had a personal best race of 55.99 for the 100 freestyle.
Coach Christiansen's Thoughts:
"Some of our kids had about seven races in less than 24 hours, which is pretty gnarly. We held together really strong, we had a lot of people finding ways to improve substantially from last night and especially from a few weeks ago. We had a ton of racing and it's a testament to this team that we're cheering and going nuts when we're exhausted!"
