Prairie Stars Become Shooting Stars; Hawks Fall 7-1

Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University women's soccer team faced the University of Illinois Sprinfield Prairie Stars at home on Sunday (Oct. 1). A second half surge in scoring from the Prairie Stars left the Hawks defeated 7-1.

Despite the results from the box score, the Hawks held with the Prairie Stars through the first half. Illinois Springfield found their break in hte 34th minute off of a defensive error. A corner kick goal late in the half sent the Hawks to the locker room down by two.

Freshman Eva Norris got the start for the Hawks in goal, making a career high 11 saves in the game, seven of which came in the second half. Her first of the frenzy came just a minute into the game when she made a quick reaction save off a slight breakaway.

The Hawks were called on a penalty in the box, giving another easy goal to the Prairie Stars. Norris made up for the two second half goals scored with a three-save train in the 64th minute. Two breakaway saves and a tip over the net from a header gave Norris and the team some confidence in the middle of the half. So much confidence that the Hawks were able to break through and put a point on the scoreboard in 67th minute off an Ella Wolfard one-touch crack to the low far post. Lisa Albarran set her up after taking the ball up the left side and slotting the ball across.

The momentum from Wolfard's goal was not enough for the Hawks to chip away at the three-goal deficit. The Prairie Stars finished the game with three more goals, sending the Hawks home with a 7-1 defeat. The Hawks look to bounce back on Senior Weekend next weekend, facing the Drury Panthers on Friday night and the Southwest Baptist Bearcats on Sunday afternoon for Senior Day.
