MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Quincy University men's and women's swimming teams traveled to Monmouth Illinois on Friday (Jan. 13) to take part in a three-team meet at Monmouth College. The Hawks faced off against the Prairie Fire of Knox College as well as the host Scots in both men's and women's competition coming away with two combined team victories 79-defeating MC 178-140 and KC 179-114.
On the men's side of things, the Hawks swam very well going 2-0 on the day taking down the Scots for their first victory by a score of 106-47 and the Prairie Fire of KC 102-47 for their second win of the contest.
QU ran the table in individual events claiming the top finisher in all eight of them.
Kyle Scritchfield took the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breastroke.
Martiniano Montero finished first in the 50-yard freestyle as well as the 100-yard freestyle.
Wyatt Walsh grabbed a couple W's in the 200-yard IM and the 500-yard backstroke.
Jeronimo Augurusa Franco topped the podium in the 100-yard butterfly and
Dennis Mhini in the 100-yard backstroke.
The women's squad went 1-1 on the day dropping one to the host Scots 93-72 and winning the second over Knox College 77-67.
The Hawks found success in both individual events as well as in relays, collecting five individual champs and one team winner.
Izabella Sparrow dominated in her two freestyle events collecting a top finish in the 200-yard and 100-yard freestyle.
Chantal Tiesinga was the first to finish in the 200 Yard IM.
Nancy Olson swam her way to a 100-yard butterfly win and
Faith Cummings got her own in the 500-yard freestyle. Quincy closed out the evening with a relay victory by Cummings, Tiesinga, Olson and
Megan Miller in the 200 freestyle.
It will be a quick turnaround for QU as they host Maryville University for a 1:00 p.m. GLVC showdown tomorrow, Saturday (Jan. 14) at the HFC pool.
