Hawks Hit Three Home Runs On Senior Day, Jennings Tosses No-Hitter To Earn Split

QUINCY, Ill. ---The Quincy University softball team hosted Rockhurst on Saturday (April 23) and fell 11-2 in game one, but followed with an 8-0 five inning victory in game two to salvage the split.

Game 1
Rockhurst struck first as they led off the game with a home run, and then added three more runs in the top of the second to take a 4-0 lead. Quincy responded in the bottom of the third after Taylor Downen drilled a two-run home run to center field to make the score 4-2 in favor of Rockhurst. Rockhurst plated four runs the next half inning, and limited the Hawks the rest of the game to win by nine runs. Downen had two of QU's five hits.

Game 2
Quincy began the scoring in the bottom of the second with a big three run inning. Audrey Hermann drove a ball to center field for a three run home run on a 2-2 count to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead. Quincy added another run in the bottom of the third after an Allyson Maynard solo home run to center field. Downen and Maynard each had RBI singles in the Hawks three run bottom of the fourth to take a 7-0 lead. Jayle Jennings then walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, which gave QU a 8-0 lead and ended the game via mercy rule. Jennings has allowed just one run in her last two starts and tossed a complete game (5 innings) no hitter today with three strikeouts and four walks.
