Adeyinka Balls Out on Final Game in Pepsi Arena, Scores Career-Best 19 Points

The Quincy University women's basketball team triumphed over William Jewell College 72-54 in a GLVC matchup at Pepsi Arena on Saturday (February 19) afternoon.

The first quarter was rough on the Hawks, who fell behind early. Their first points came on a Maddie Spagnola three-pointer with 8:16 remaining on the clock. The team became more competitive as play drew on, though, taking the lead twice: once on a Dami Adeyinka three-pointer with 4:16 remaining, and the second time on a hook shot jumper by Sarah Nelson, the latter making the score 10-9 Hawks with 3:32 remaining. Unfortunately, the Hawks were unable to defend the lead, and the quarter ended with the Cardinals leading 19-13.

The Hawks drew first blood in quarter two, with Grace Flanagan sinking a three-pointer forty-eight seconds in. Their first lead in the quarter came later in play, with a pair of layups from Adeyinka making it 26-24 Hawks with 3:41 remaining. Adeyinka later regained the lead for QU with three free throws, with the game going to halftime with the score being 29-27 Hawks.

The third quarter was rough for the Hawks, who were silent as the Cardinals went on a streak. Two Nelson free throws with 6:25 remaining gave QU their first points of the half, with the lead being regained again with 3:48 remaining on a Grace Flanagan three-pointer, making the score 38-37 Hawks. An absolute tear followed, with the Hawks not allowing a single point from the Cardinals as the game went into the final quarter of play 52-37 Hawks.

The fourth quarter was smooth sailing for QU. A Nelson layup gave the Hawks their first points of the quarter with 8:57 remaining, and another layup from Sydney Happel with twenty-nine seconds remaining were their last, with QU never letting their lead drop below ten points throughout the final ten minutes.

Dami Adeyinka led the Hawks with 19 points in 38 minutes of play. Sarah Nelson scored 17 points in 28 minutes of play, Grace Flanagan scored 11 points in 21 minutes of play, Regan Loconte scored 10 points in 13 minutes of play, and Maddie Spagnola scored 10 points with a team-leading 10 rebounds in 40 minutes of play.
