QUINCY, Ill. – For the first time since 2017, the Quincy University Hawks fell in the "Battle of the Birds" to William Jewell College by the score of 17-7. The Hawks finish the 2022 season with an overall record of 4-7 (1-5 GLVC). Before the game, the Hawks honored 18 seniors for their dedication and commitment to the football program.
The Hawks received the opening kickoff and looked to be putting together a solid opening drive, but the Cardinal defense had other thoughts. KC Ericksen got into the Hawk backfield and forced a fumble that led to a Sean Mitchell scoop and score from 73 yards out for a touchdown.
Early in the 2
nd quarter, Jewell went up two scores on a 20-yard touchdown pass that capped off a 6 play, 59 yard drive.
As the game moved to the 3
rd quarter, the Hawks cut the score in half with seven minutes left on the clock as
Tremayne Lee found the end zone from 9 yards out to end the 48 yard, five play drive.
Jewell added a field goal in the 4
th quarter for some insurance.
