Hawks Fall on Senior Day in Battle of the Birds

QUINCY, Ill. – For the first time since 2017, the Quincy University Hawks fell in the "Battle of the Birds" to William Jewell College by the score of 17-7. The Hawks finish the 2022 season with an overall record of 4-7 (1-5 GLVC). Before the game, the Hawks honored 18 seniors for their dedication and commitment to the football program.

The Hawks received the opening kickoff and looked to be putting together a solid opening drive, but the Cardinal defense had other thoughts. KC Ericksen got into the Hawk backfield and forced a fumble that led to a Sean Mitchell scoop and score from 73 yards out for a touchdown.

Early in the 2nd quarter, Jewell went up two scores on a 20-yard touchdown pass that capped off a 6 play, 59 yard drive.

As the game moved to the 3rd quarter, the Hawks cut the score in half with seven minutes left on the clock as Tremayne Lee found the end zone from 9 yards out to end the 48 yard, five play drive.

Jewell added a field goal in the 4th quarter for some insurance.

Record Watch
Linebacker Peyten Chappel recorded five solo tackles, which makes him the new king of total and solo tackles in the program history.
