Hawks Retain River Rivalry Belt in Win Over Griffons

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University Sprint Football team hosted the Fontbonne University Griffons at the Rock on Saturday (Oct. 22) dominating from start to finish while putting the most scores on the board of the season beating the Griffons 35-6 to sweep the regular season River Rivalry.

After a defensive battle in the first quarter by both teams the opening score of the game came on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Taylor Klusmeyer to Camden Pye for the Hawks first touchdown of the game. Right after the QU special teams put up some points of their own by blocking a punt resulting in a safety and a 9-0 lead for Quincy.

The Hawks offense stayed hot and on the very next drive Taylor Klusmeyer completed a 38-yard pass to Exavior Hinton who beat his defender and was wide open in the end zone for Quincy University's second touchdown of the day, extending the lead to 16-0.

To end the half Hawks kicker Ethan Beroiza hit back-to-back field goals from 46 and 37 yards out as the Hawks went into halftime with a controlling 22-0 lead against the Griffons.

Quincy University's defense stayed strong to begin the third quarter as Kyson Jackson got an interception on Fontbonne's first drive of the second half. Taylor Klusmeyer would use this interception to his advantage as he drove the offense down the field and connected on an 18-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Leasman to the Hawks lead and make it 29-0.

After Fontbonne University managed to score a touchdown late in the third quarter, Quincy's offense responded right back as Taylor Klusmeyer threw for his fourth touchdown of the day finding Elijah Leasman once again for an eight-yard score.

The QU Hawks will finish their regular season next week as they go on the road and play against Midway University in Midway, Kentucky on Saturday (Oct. 29).
