Box Score 2 QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's tennis team clinched a spot in the GLVC Tournament with a 4-3 win over Rockhurst at Reservoir Park on Saturday afternoon. The QU men fell in a nail-biter, 4-3.
Laila Leist-Alston set the tone with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the number one spot. This was her fifth win in six matches.
Nicole Lao won 6-3, 6-0 in the number five singles slot, and
Annie McGinnis won the sixth singles match 7-5, 6-3.
With the Hawks needing two out of the three doubles pairings to go in their favor,
Makaela Hampton and
Steffi Lao got a doubles win, 6-3, in the second match. McGinnis and
Noni Updyke sealed the game with a 6-2 victory and allowed QU to move to 3-1 in league play.
The QU women's team sits in third within the West Division. There are two conference matches left, and today's head-to-head win over Rockhurst secured a postseason berth for QU. This will be the first postseason berth for the women's tennis team since the 2010-11 season.
On the men's side, QU was handed a hard-fought 4-3 defeat.

Samuele Contestabile, and
Luca Cantale each got wins in singles action, but the Hawks won just one of the doubles matches. The pairing of Cantale and Contestabile won the third doubles match 6-2.
The Hawks will face a ranked SBU team next Friday at 1:00 p.m.
