QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy women's soccer team remained undefeated at home Sunday afternoon (Mar. 21) after a 3-0 shutout over Illinois-Springfield University.
The Hawks tied their season-high in goals scored, and it started with senior
Riley Hayes. Four minutes into the contest,
Lexi Porchia connected with Hayes as her shot struck the bottom left side of the net from 15 yards out giving QU an early 1-0 advantage.
Approaching halftime,
Maddie Bauer was shoved in the back attacking a ball in the box. The play resulted in a foul giving the Hawks a penalty kick.
Lauren Crane was the recipient of the PK as her shot went to low right past the outstretched UIS goalkeeper and gave the Hawks their second goal of the day.
The final blow came twelve minutes into the second period. Hayes led a transition opportunity and connected on the cross with
Maddie Bauer for an easy chip shot. The goal was her first of the season and the team's third on the day as they led, 3-0.
Quincy's defense never let up and held strong for 90 minutes. The Hawks earned their second shutout win of the season while limiting UIS to just two shots on goal.
Olivia Kindt helped orchestrate the defense in goal and made two saves in Quincy's win.
