Golf Opens Spring Slate At Warrior Invitational In Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV. – After finishing a fall season back in October, the Quincy University men's and women's golf teams opened their spring slate at the Warrior Invitational hosted by Winona State at Stallion Mountain Golf Club. The Hawks competed in the two-day event as the men finished 8th and the women finished 7th. 

Overall, Washburn University won the men's side with a team score of 601 and Northeastern State took the women's side with a team stroke count of 622. The Hawks men finished with 658 strokes and the women tallied 717. 

QU's men's squad showed improvement and the ability to adjust from day one to day two. The Hawks shot a 340 on the opening day Monday, but they were able to cut that number down by 28 strokes to 314 on the final day. 

Grant Wolfe shot the lowest individual score for QU on the week with an 81 on the first day and a 78 on day two. Nick Messinger recovered from a rough day one score of 88 and turned in a 75 on day two which was tied for the fifth best score on the day. 

For the women, Hannah Maguire led the way with an 87 and 84 for a combined score of 171. This was good for 23rd at the event. 

The women will not have another competition until March 21st when they travel to the Midwest Intercollegiate Invitational hosted by Central Missouri. The men will head to the Trevecca Nazarene Invitational on March 14th.
