Ladner Slams 21 Kills; Hawks Get First MIVA Win of 2021

QUINCY, Ill. – The QU men's volleyball took down Lindenwood University on Friday night (Feb. 26) in four sets to secure their first MIVA victory of the season. Michael Ladner led the way with 21 kills and a .351 hitting percentage.

Set 1
Through the first 12 points of the contest, both squads were knotted at six apiece, but a block by Cooper Coleman and a service ace from Michael Ladner gave the Hawks an early 8-6 lead.

A 7-1 rally for Lindenwood then forced QU to burn their first timeout while trailing 11-9.

Quincy continued the pressure later in the set after Eddie Jakubauskas downed a kill which was followed by an attack from Zach Reider to bring the Hawks within two, 22-20.

A service error from Lindenwood followed by back-to-back blocks from Reider and Jakubauskas gave Quincy a one-point lead, 24-23.

Michael Ladner was the closer of set one finishing with back-to-back kills giving Quincy a 26-24 set one victory.

Set 2
A block by Reider and a Jakubauskas kill cut the LU lead to 9-7 early in set two. After a couple blocking errors, Quincy called their first timeout trailing 12-8.

QU fell behind by as many as five points, but two attacking errors from LU and a monstrous attack from Wheeler brought the Hawks within one, 18-17, forcing the Lions to call a timeout.

A yellow card given to Noam Hannoun on a questionable attack fueled Lindenwood to close things out as they scored six of the final seven points winning 25-20.

Set 3
Quincy took control early, 7-3, after a Cooper Coleman strike and block on ensuing plays. The Hawks continued to build on their lead, 10-6, following kills from Wheeler and Jakubauskas.

Lindenwood picked up their defensive pressure in the interior with three straight blocks on QU attacks which pulled the Lions within one, 13-12.

The contest was locked even at 20 apiece, but a block by Ladner, a strike from Wheeler, followed by a Lion attacking error gave Quincy a three-point 23-20 advantage.

Quincy took set three, 25-21, after scoring five of the last six points.

Set 4
Momentum from the third set carried over as Quincy led 7-5 through the first twelve points. Ladner kept his night rolling with two strikes on the next three points as QU led 13-9 forcing a Lions timeout.

The Hawks lead grew to six at 17-11 after a Zach Reider kill then, Quincy went on to take a commanding 21-14 lead.

Eyeing match point, Reider and Yoran Raymaekers connected for a block at the net sealing the victory, 25-19.
