Hawks Drop First Road Game at Purdue Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, In. – Coming into Friday night, the QU men's volleyball team had played a total of seven contests, which included two exhibitions. All of those contests were played in the friendly confines of Pepsi Arena. The Hawks played on the road for the first time this season and fell to Purdue Fort Wayne in four sets, 18-25, 21-25, 25-16, 14-25.

1st Set
The Mastodons jumped on the Hawks early by building an 8-3 lead. This set the tone for the remainder of set one as Quincy could not get closer than four points the rest of the way. Fort Wayne took set one, 25-18.

2nd Set
Quincy showed more urgency to start off set two after kills by Eddie Jakubauskas and Zach Reider led to an early 4-4 tie. A few points later, QU gained a 7-6 lead following another kill by Jakubauskas. Near the midway point, a kill by Michael Ladner paired with a Mastodon attack error and a service ace by Omari Wheeler gave QU the lead, 13-11. Quincy remained in front by a score of 16-14 before the home team rattled off three straight points and gained a 17-16 advantage. The Hawks once again took the lead at 20-19 following a PFW service error. The Mastodons roared back with a 3-0 run to grab a 22-20 lead, and they eventually took the second set by a score of 25-21.

3rd Set
Quincy was the aggressors in set number three. The Hawks got out to a 9-5 lead following a run of five straight points behind two kills from Omari Wheeler and another kill from Ladner. The Hawks' lead grew to eight points at 20-12 after a pair of errors on the home team, and they finished off the third set win with four points in a row. Wheeler and Jakubauskas had kills to seal it.

4th Set
The Hawks' attack was a non-factor in the fourth and final set. QU had just six kills on 32 total attacks after notching 12 kills on 32 attacks in the previous set. The Mastodons put the game away with a 25-14 win behind the slow offensive output by the Hawks in set four.
