Men's Volleyball Drops Finale at Purdue Fort Wayne

Fort Wayne, IN. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team faced Purdue Fort Wayne University for the second time in as many days on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 13). QU fell in three sets, 25-18, 27-25, 25-16.

1st Set
Purdue took over the first point of the set, but the Hawks responded hard as they took the lead after scoring five kills. Two of those kills came from Eddie Jakubauskas to make it 5-4. QU did not hold the lead for too long as the Mastodons counter-attacked and scored the next four points to take an 8-5 lead. This was enough of a momentum swing for Purdue to hang on and win the first set, 25-18. 

2nd Set
In the second set, both teams showed off their attack after both teams hit over a .300 percentage. The Mastodons took their largest lead of the set after scoring four straight points. QU trailed 15-10. Quincy fought back and closed the gap quickly after scoring the next three points to put the score at 15-13. Not long after this, the Hawks tied the game by forcing an attack error by Fort Wayne and made it an 18-18 game. The Mastodons committed three consecutive errors and granted QU the lead for the second time in the set, 22-21. The home team roared back and grabbed the lead 23-22, and the Hawks did not recover the lead and lost the second set, 27-25.

3rd Set
The Mastodons scored first to take the lead in the set. The Hawks tied it 2-2 and it was the closest they got to Purdue in the third and final set. QU trailed Purdue for the entire third set and lost the match, 25-16.
