Women's Volleyball Blocked By Lions on the Road

ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team traveled down to Lindenwood University on Friday night (Oct. 8) and were defeated in straight sets.

QU started off on the right foot after getting out to a 10-5 lead in the opening set. A pair of kills by Emma Wijnbergen and a kill each from Sarah Brown and Elizabeth Lightner led to the lead. That lead continued to grow when the score moved to 17-9 in favor of the Hawks, but the Lions came roaring back.

Lindenwood outscored Quincy 18-8 down the stretch to win set one, 27-25.

Quincy looked to squash the Lion's momentum at the start of the next set, and were able to for a brief period. The Hawks rattled off the first seven of eight points to get out to an early 7-1 lead. Lindenwood chipped away and eventually tied the score, 10-10, behind a 5-1 run.

A few points later, QU tied the score 12 a piece, but Lindenwood soon pulled away. Seven unanswered points by the Lions gave them their largest lead of the second set, 20-13. This was enough separation to go up two sets to none on the Hawks. QU dropped set two, 25-16.

The Hawk attack was more efficient in the third set as Quincy hit over .300, but Lindenwood was able to come from behind for the third straight set. QU held a 16-11 lead midway through set three, but the Lions once again had an answer by scoring the next five of six points.

Quincy looked to send the game to a fourth set when they later held a 23-21 lead, but QU could not finish things off. Lindenwood scored the next five of six points to get the sweep over the Hawks 26-24.

QU's attack had trouble consistently getting past Lindenwood's block as the Lions had 23 total blocks to Quincy's 14 in the contest. The strong block limited QU to a 0.091 hitting percentage.
