Lantz Scores 24 Points; Hawks Handed Sixth Straight Loss

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team dropped their final regular season game of the 2020 calendar year to the University of Indianapolis on Wednesday evening (Dec. 16) by a final score of 75-67.

Laney Lantz led the way for the Hawks with 24 points and 3 steals. Three other QU players also reached double digits. Jazzpher Evans scored 14 points with three steals, Sarah Nelson had 11 points and a rebound, while Aleksandra Petrovic finished with 10 points.

Quincy trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half. At the 3:54 mark in the second quarter, a made jumper by Evans cut the Greyhounds' lead to six points, 30-24. UIndy then went on a 9-4 run to end the quarter. The Hawks trailed 39-28 at the half.

A strong defensive effort sparked a 22-7 run to open the third quarter. Back-to-back three-point plays from Sarah Nelson and Laney Lantz gave the Hawks their largest lead of the contest, 50-46.

With under three minutes remaining, the Greyhounds responded with a run off their own and closed out the third quarter by scoring 11 unanswered points.

Quincy entered the final period of play down 57-50.

The late push in the third was just the momentum Indianapolis needed to keep the Hawks at bay.

Quincy was only outscored by one point in the fourth quarter, but QU was less efficient than Indianapolis from the field. The Hawks made just 35% of their attempts in the fourth quarter compared to Indy's 58% from the floor.

QU was unable to muster a comeback late and dropped their sixth straight contest, 75-67.
