ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team received a career high performance from sophomore guard,
Laney Lantz, yet the Hawks fell 80-70 to Lewis University on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 29).
Lantz got things started for the Hawks by scoring six of the team's first ten points of the quarter. QU as they trailed 11-10 after the first media timeout.
Out of the break, the entrance of
Jazzpher Evans and
Emma Knipe into the contest sparked a 9-0 run as the Hawks took control 19-11.
Quincy's largest lead of the quarter was an 11-point difference, and they held a 22-15 lead after the conclusion of the opening quarter. The Hawks shot 60% from the field and went a perfect 4-4 from the charity line.
Lantz started off the second quarter much like the first after notching 10 of the team's first 12 points.
After an
Emma Knipe three-pointer later in the quarter, the Hawks took hold of a 36-25 lead.
The defense picked up for the Flyers as they held Quincy scoreless the final 3:42 of the period.
Going into the half, the Hawks clung to a 36-31 lead.
Lewis returned to the court with hot shooting, knocking down their first three three-point attempts from behind the arc. After a Flyer's lay up, the game was tied at 46 all with 3:23 remaining.
Both teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 55 after a made shot at the buzzer by Lewis.
The Flyers took control of momentum at the 4:11 mark, as Quincy struggled to maintain possession due to turnovers. The Hawks committed 26 total turnovers in the game.
Quincy fell to Flyers by a final score of 80-70.
