Hawks Wrap Up Regular Season At #10 Loyola-Chicago

Box Score QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's volleyball team finished the MIVA regular season on the road against #10 Loyola-Chicago Saturday night (Apr. 6). The Ramblers defeated the Hawks in three sets 25-15, 25-18, 25-20.

Play by Play

1st Set

Both teams traded points to start the opening set. QU used kills from Brendon Estrada and Omari Wheeler to tie it at 3-3 early on.

Loyola scored six of the next seven points to take a 9-4 lead and force head coach Gavin Mueller to take a timeout. 

Blake Sprecher slammed home a kill out of the timeout and Jacob Sheets added two more to pull within four at 11-7. 

The Ramblers gained control of the set by winning seven of the next nine points to pull ahead 18-9.

The Hawks were unable to overcome this deficit and dropped the first set 25-15.

2nd Set

Loyola rode momentum into the second set. The Ramblers jumped out to an early 9-4 lead.

The Hawks did not back down. A service ace from Adam Rogan and kills from Wheeler and Sheets gave Quincy the momentum swing they needed. QU scored six of the next nine points to cut the lead to 12-10 and force a Loyola timeout. 

The Ramblers scored five of the next seven points to extend their lead to 17-12.

The Hawks later used a strategically placed serve by Sprecher and kills from Rogan and Stevie Bresser to cut the Loyola lead to 20-18.

This as close as the Hawks would get as the Ramblers recorded the final five points to take the second set 25-18.

3rd Set

The Hawks were determined to force a fourth set. QU used kills from Rogan, Estrada, and Sheets to jump out to a 4-1 lead early in the third set. 

Loyola later responded by winning four out of five points to take their first lead of the set at 11-10, forcing a QU timeout.

Quincy came out of the timeout and scored five of the next eight points to retake the lead 15-14. Kills from Estrada, Sprecher, and Bresser highlighted the run.

The Ramblers responded with a 4-0 run of their own to go ahead 18-15.

Kills from Wheeler and Bresser kept the Hawks in the game as they cut the lead to one at 19-18.

Loyola never relinquished the lead as they won six of the last eight points to win the third set 25-20 and take a 3-0 victory.
