Men's Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Match In The Volunteer State

Box Score BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Quincy University men's volleyball team dropped a competitive non-conference matchup to King University on Friday (Mar. 15). The Hawks fell 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 21-25, 21-25). 

Play By Play

1st Set

The Hawks jumped out to a quick start behind two kills from Ben Rachilla and Omari Wheeler to take a 2-0 lead. 

The Tornadoes answered with a three point run of their own to gain a 3-2 advantage.

Both teams went back and forth before King won four quick points to take an 11-6 lead, forcing a QU timeout.

King came out of the timeout and won six out of the next 10 points to take a commanding 17-10 lead.

The Hawks would come storming back. Three Tornado errors and two kills by Wheeler and Blake Sprecher allowed the Hawks to cut the lead to 19-16. 

Quincy was not able to retake the lead as King took the first set 25-21.

2nd Set

The Tornadoes used a four point run to take a 6-2 lead early in the second set.

QU used kills by Wheeler and Jacob Sheets to take four of the next five points to cut the lead to 7-6.

Later in the set, King would pull away to take a 21-15 lead. 

The Hawks fought back once again with kills by Wheeler, Rachilla, and Noam Hannoun to cut the Tornado lead to 22-20. Sprecher would later slam home a kill to tie it at 24-24.

QU won the next point and Wheeler tallied his eleventh kill of the match to give the Hawks a 26-24 victory in set two.

3rd Set

Midway through set three, neither team could gain an advantage as the score sat deadlocked at 12-12.

The Hawks used three Tornado errors and a Wheeler kill to win four of the next six points and take a 16-14 lead.

King answered with a three point run to retake the lead at 17-16.

Two QU timeouts could not stifle the Tornadoes as they won eight of the last 13 points to take the third set 25-21.

4th Set

King took momentum into the fourth set as they grabbed an early 5-1 lead. 

The Hawks would later follow three Tornado errors with a Sprecher kill to tie the score at 8-8.

The Tornadoes won twelve of the next 17 points to gain a 20-13 advantage, forcing a QU timeout. 

The Hawks used a Sprecher kill out of the timeout to fuel a 3-0 run and cut the lead to 20-16.

This lead proved to be the difference as the Hawks could not recover. King won the fourth set 25-21 to take a 3-1 victory.
