Hawks Soar Over Saints 88-29

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team returned to Pepsi Arena Thursday night (Dec. 5) for a non-conference game with Central Christian College of the Bible. The Hawks solid defense and timely shooting propelled them to an 88-29 victory over the Saints.

How It Happened
QU got on the board first in Thursday night's game and never looked back. Ella Gobald found Aleksandra Petrovic for a three-pointer 16 seconds into the game to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead.

The Saints drained a three on the next possession, but it was all Quincy after that. The home team ended the first quarter on a 24-0 run.

The first quarter run was highlighted by a two-minute stretch where Dami Adeyinka scored seven straight points. It was capped off in the final minute when Amanda Porth found Sarah Nelson and Grace Schraufnagel for two easy buckets. QU went into the second period leading 27-3.

CCCB scored first in the second quarter with a jump shot, but Laney Lantz answered right back with a three pointer.

Jessica Merino and Aleksandra Petrovic later knocked down back-to-back threes to put QU up 40-5.

The Quincy defense held the Saints scoreless for nearly eight minutes straight. The visiting team ended the drought with a shot from behind the arc at the 1:42 mark.

For every shot the Saints made, Quincy had a quick answer. Ella Gobald scored 30 seconds later to make the score 53-8 QU.

That score stood heading into the locker room.

The Hawks picked up where they left off to begin the third quarter. Aleksandra Petrovic nailed a three on the first possession to get things rolling.

Laney Lantz and Marta Rivera teamed up for back-to-back threes to extend the Quincy lead to 66-14 with 2:38 remaining in the quarter.

Lantz and Kennedy Prince each hit a shot with under a minute left to make the score 71-20 going into the fourth.

The Hawks continued to pull away in the final period, outscoring the Saints 17-9.

Aleksandra Petrovic finished with 17 points, while Dami Adeyinka added 11 and Laney Lantz contributed 10, en route to an 88-29 victory.
