QUINCY, Ill. - The Hawks (5-9-1, 4-8-1 GLVC) allowed two second half goals to Southern Indiana (10-4-1, 8-4-1 GLVC) and fell 2-0 on Sunday afternoon (Hawktober 27).
After the Hawks held the highest-scoring offense in the GLVC scoreless in the first half, the Screaming Eagles scored right away in the second half.
Katlyn Andres scored her 6
th goal of the season, and the Hawks fell behind 1-0 in the 47
th minute and that is all the Screaming Eagles would need.
The Hawks had four corners in the first half and held a majority of the possession in the Screaming Eagles attacking third.
The Hawks had four shots on goal during the game, two of which came from
Sydney Gorman. Gorman had a strike in the 3
rd minute following two corner kicks by the Hawks but USI goalkeeper Maya Etienne made the collection.
Paige Anderson had multiple opportunities on free kicks for the Hawks. In the 20
th minute she struck the ball above the frame, and in the 30
th minute Anderson barley missed to the left of the net. In the 58
th minute Anderson just missed above the crossbar as she had another free kick from about 30 yards out.
After allowing an early second-half goal, the Hawks had eight shots and six corner kicks forcing Etienne to make three saves in the second stanza.
Mary Maloney had a shot on goal in the 55
th minute, and
Lauren Crane served a corner into the box in the 57
th minute to
Lexi Porchia who headed it on frame, but Etienne made both saves.
The Hawks were granted opportunities to serve the ball into the box and equalize the game numerous times, as the Screaming Eagles committed 13 fouls in the second half.
The Screaming Eagles sealed the deal in the 71
st minute when Taylor McCormick scored on a ball played through by Audrey Andrzejewski.
It was the third consecutive game, and the eighth time this season, the Hawks have been shutout.
The Hawks fall to 5-9-1 overall and 4-8-1 in GLVC play.
The Hawks still could make the GLVC tournament, but do not control their own destiny. QU has two games remaining in the regular season and are two games back of the 8
th spot in the conference. The top eight teams qualify for the GLVC tournament.
