Two First Half Goals Lifts Maryville Past QU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Maryville Saints scored twice in the first forty-five minutes of Friday's GLVC matchup to defeat Quincy 2-1. Emma Vaughn scored the lone goal for the Hawks just before the 83rd minute.

1st Half
Quincy drew a tough road contest with a Maryville squad that ranked third in the GLVC polls coming into today's game. The Saints were the aggressors for much of the opening half.

QU was outshot 8-0 in the first half of play as MU kept the possession in the Hawks defensive zone. The Saints sent three shots off in the first twenty minutes of play, but two missed wide, and the other was scooped off the ground by Emilee Autry

Autry was tested in the first half as she made three saves. Unfortunately, the Saints got two shots past the sophomore. MU got on the board in the 24th minute with a goal by Amanda Kaltwasser.

Quincy found themselves down two goals after another goal by the Saints in the 36th minute. The Hawks trailed 2-0 going into the second half.

2nd Half
The Hawks were able to finally get a shot off just two minutes into the second half. Baylee Smith sent a shot towards the box, but she missed the mark.

Offensive opportunities were few and far between for the Hawks for the better part of the second half. QU managed just three total shots in the last forty-five minutes. Two of those shots went on goal including one by Mary Maloney that was saved in the 80th minute.

QU was able to avoid the shutout with a goal in the 83rd minute by Emma Vaughn. Her goal was assisted by Maloney.

Maryville hung on in the final seven minutes to secure the 2-1 win.
