Box Score QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's volleyball team fell to Ohio State University in straight sets Sunday afternoon (Feb. 18). The Hawks lost 25-22. 25-15, 25-15.
In the opening set, the Buckeyes jumped out to and early 10-1 lead. The Hawks managed to fight their way back into the set led by kills from
Anthony Winter, Omari Wheeler and
Shane McAdams.
QU cut the lead to 18-17 after a kill by McAdams. A 3-0 run by Ohio State put the Buckeyes back in control with the score reading 21-17. This was enough cushion for Ohio State and the Buckeyes won the first set 25-22.
The Hawks struggled with their attacks in the second set. QU tallied seven kills and committed seven attack errors. Another quick start by the Buckeyes saw Ohio State leading the Hawks 9-3. This early lead was too much to overcome for the Hawks and QU fell in the second set 25-15.
QU looked to turn the tied of the match in the third set. The Hawks scored the first four points of the third set. A 6-0 run by the Buckeyes gave Ohio State a 6-4 lead. The Buckeyes would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the third set and defeated the Hawks 25-15.
Anthony Winter led the Hawks with seven kills in the match.
QU falls to 8-6, 0-4 in the MIVA. The Hawks are back in action tomorrow (Feb. 18) against McKendree.
