Lady Hawks and Knights Meet in GLVC Championship

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The fourth seeded Quincy University women's basketball team meets three seed Bellarmine University in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship tomorrow (Mar. 6) at 1 p.m. in St. Charles, Mo. at Family Arena. QU earned an upset win over top seed Lewis University, 59-54, in the GLVC Tournament semifinals. BU also advanced with an upset over second seed Drury University, 80-77. The winner gets an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

FIVE FUN FACTS
- The Lady Hawks enter the GLVC Championship game for the first time since 2009. QU lost to Kentucky Wesleyan in 2009, but won back-to-back GLVC Championships in 2004 and 2005. The Lady Hawks have made four appearances in the GLVC Championship game holding a 2-2 record.

- Head coach Jeni Garber and senior Maggie Cunningham both hit career milestones on Saturday in the win over Lewis. Garber earned her 100th career victory as a head coach in a big win to send QU to the GLVC Championship. Maggie Cunningham scored her 1,000th point of her career on the final free throw of the game.

- Anika Webster has provided a spark off the bench for the Lady Hawks this season. Webster is averaging 12.2 points per game this season leading the team. That average jumps to 13.2 points per GLVC game. The Springfield, Ill. native averages 4.9 rebounds per game as well. The sophomore scored a career-high 25 points at Rockhurst on Feb. 18th.

- The Lady Hawks came away with an 83-75 win on the road at Bellarmine on Jan. 16, 2016. Four players finished in double-figures. Kara Gerbus and Anika Webster finished with 17 points each. Maggie Cunningham scored 14 points, and Erin Mennemeyer notched 10 points. BU shot 35.7% from the field and 15% from three in the game. QU hit 52% from the floor and hit 29-of-44 from the line.

- QU has shot 75.4% from the line this season ranking third in the GLVC and 26th in NCAA DII. In the last five minutes of play, the Lady Hawks raise that average to 79%. Maggie Cunningham has hit 56-of-62 (90.3%) free throws in the final five minutes of games. Cunningham is second in the GLVC and 18th in NCAA DII shooting 86.8% from the line this season. Anika Webster ranks 13th in the GLVC hitting 75.3% from the foul stripe. Kara Gerbus is hitting 80% from the line and Carly Beebe is knocking down 78.7%.
