QU Tennis Starts Spring with Pair of Wins at Principia

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's and women's tennis teams opened the Spring season with dual wins at Principia College in Elsah, Ill. on Saturday, Feb. 6. The QU women earned a 7-2 win including a doubles sweep. The men notched an 8-1 victory, also sweeping doubles.

Elizabeth Kuenzi, Rebecca McIsaac, Anna Morrissey, and Morgan McGinnis swept the day for the Lady Hawks (5-0) in singles and doubles play.

Kuenzi and McIsaac won number one doubles 8-6. Kuenzi notched a 6-2, 6-0 win in the second singles slot. McIsaac earned a 6-2, 6-3 win in singles at the third spot.

Morrissey and McGinnis took the second doubles match 8-2. Morrissey won her number four singles match 6-0, 6-1. McGinnis secured a 6-1, 6-0 number five singles win.

Amy Kuhle and Anna Konczak completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win.

The Hawks (3-1) started the day with an 8-2 doubles win by the number one team of Patrick Kuhle and Ryan McMillan. Michael Lesko and Wyatt Pauley earned an 8-6 win in number two doubles. Chris Bueler and newcomer, Danyil Vayser, picked up their first win as doubles partners, 8-4.

Kuhle led off singles in the first slot with a 6-3, 6-0 win. Danyil Vayser slotted in at number two singles for the Hawks' and earned the win 6-3, 7-6 after a 7-5 tiebreaker in the second set. Ryan McMillan topped Aaron Switzer in the fourth spot 6-2, 6-1. Wyatt Pauley won 6-1, 6-1 at number five for the Hawks. Chris Bueler locked up the 8-1 win with a 6-2, 6-0 number six singles win.

The QU tennis teams will take the court in St. Louis, Mo. against St. Louis University on Sunday, Feb. 7, in a dual match.
