LIBERTY, Mo. – The Quincy University men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Saturday afternoon, sweeping William Jewell 7-0 to clinch a spot in the GLVC Tournament for the third consecutive season.
The Hawks set the tone early, sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the opening point. The No. 1 duo of
Inigo Villacampa and
Enrique Doldan, the No. 2 pairing of Rodrigo Coello and
Patricio Jimenez, and the No. 3 team of
Cristobal Tellez and
Gerard Abad Puig all earned convincing victories. The doubles win marked the fifth straight victory together for Tellez and Abad Puig as partners.
Quincy carried that momentum into singles play, sweeping all six courts to complete the shutout. Villacampa led the way with a straight-set win at No. 1, earning his 20th singles victory of the season. Doldan, Tellez, Abad Puig,
Gael Castro, and
David Eusamio each added dominant straight-set wins to finish off the match.
The Hawks will now set their sights on the postseason as they prepare to take on Maryville University on Friday, May 1. The two programs met earlier this season in St. Louis, where Maryville earned a 5-2 victory in a tightly contested match.
