Quincy Sweeps Double Dual Meet at Millikin

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University swimming team swept a twin dual meet on Friday (Nov. 11) night in Decatur, Ill., toppling host Millikin, 117-68, and Anderson, 135-60. They were the first wins of the season for the Hawks, who are now 2-3 in scored meets this season.

The Hawks picked up seven wins on the night, including the 400 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

Sophomore Brittany Walenczyk (Waukesha, Wis./West) was the first place finisher in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:15.56, which was 43 seconds better than the second place finish.

Sophomore McKenna Brown (Minot, N.D./Minot-Magic City) was the top finisher in the 200 individual medley with teammate, freshman Athena Leex (Kopavofur, Iceland), finishing in second. Brown clocked in at 2:22.32 for the win.

Leex and Walenczyk finished 1-2 in the 100 backstroke as Leex touched the pad with a time of 1:02.16.

Freshman Sydney Zimdars (Whitewater, Wis.) was the fastest swimmer in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:33.53. Brown and sophomore Katie Cazes (Port Allen, La./St. Joseph's Academy) were next in that race to help Quincy sweep the top three spots.

Freshman Jaimie Mans (Louisville, Ky./Ballard) and sophomore Maddie Rall (Omaha, Neb./Westside) finished first and second in the 100 breaststoke with Mans clocking in at 1:13.10.

The Hawks also won in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:28.49. That team consisted of senior Briana Flores (Lakeland, Fla./Tenoroc/Indian River State), Mans, freshman Eboni McCray (Avondale, Ariz./Agua Fria) and Rall.

The team of Leex, Zimdars, freshman Julianna Basler (Maryland Heights, Mo./Pattonville) and Brown won in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:56.37.

The Hawks will return to the pool next weekend (Nov. 18-19) at the Miner Invitation in Rolla, Mo.
