FINAL FIVE: The Quincy University men's volleyball team enters this week with five matches remaining – all at Pepsi Arena and all against MIVA competition - as the Hawks battle for tournament seeding with an outside chance of playing a postseason match at Pepsi Arena. Quincy welcomes McKendree and No. 11 Ohio State this week.

LAST TIME OUT: The Hawks and NAIA No. 3 Missouri Baptist went the distance in St. Louis on Monday (March 30), but the Spartans took a 15-25, 25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 16-14 win. The loss snapped a modest two-match winning streak. The Hawks finished the nonconference portion of its schedule with an 8-3 record, including a 4-0 mark against Division I-II teams.

THROUGH THE MIDDLE: The QU offense is bolstered by its two starting middle blockers, who each rank in the top four in the MIVA in hitting percentage. Sophomore Jarrod Kelso (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) ranks second in the league in hitting percentage (.370) and leads the team with 2.35 kills per set. He is also fifth in the conference in total blocks (92). Senior John Pranger (Edwardsville, Ill.) nearly matches Kelso in efficiency, hitting at a .354 clip this season – good for fourth in the league.

DIGGING DEEP: The Hawks also have two players ranked in the top five in the MIVA in total digs. Junior opposite Jack Gamache (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell Central) has 173 digs, ranking third in the conference. Gamache is tied with Kelso for the team lead in kills per set (2.35) and is hitting a career-best .219. Freshman libero Simon Bruckner (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) is fifth in the MIVA with 163 digs. The Hawks are seventh nationally in digs per set (9.68).

MAKING HISTORY: The Hawks' four wins in MIVA play this season are the most for the QU men's volleyball program since the 2005 season when they went 4-12 in league play. The last time Quincy won at least five MIVA matches came in 2003 when they carried a 7-9 league record.
