TOUGH STRETCH: The Quincy University men's volleyball team this weekend concludes a three-match stretch of playing nationally-ranked MIVA opponents at Pepsi Arena. The Hawks fell to No. 11 Ohio State last Saturday in four sets and will now take on No. 5 Loyola Chicago and No. 2 Lewis. The Buckeyes, Ramblers and Flyers are the top three teams in the conference and all have locked up home matches in the first round of the MIVA Tournament.

MIVA TOURNEY OUTLOOK: The Hawks currently sit in sixth place in the MIVA one match behind Lindenwood for fifth and two behind IPFW for fourth with three matches to play. The top four teams in the MIVA standings host a first round conference tournament match. Quincy is one match ahead (two in the loss column) of seventh-place Ball State.

LAST TIME OUT: The Hawks are coming off a four-set defeat to No. 11 Ohio State at Pepsi Arena. QU had trouble handling the OSU attack early as the Buckeyes hit over .400 in the first two sets. The Hawks picked up their blocking in Set 3 and held Ohio State to .000 hitting. The Buckeyes rebounded in the final set for the win. Quincy posted a season high with 14 blocks in the match.

RED-HOT PRANGER: Over the last six matches, senior middle John Pranger (Edwardsville, Ill.) has been the model of efficiency. He is hitting a blistering .560 in the last six matches, averaging 1.92 kills per set. He also has a team-high 27 blocks (six solo) in that stretch. He hit .650 (14-1-20) last week against McKendree and Ohio State. Pranger ranks third in the MIVA in hitting percentage (.373).

DYNAMIC DUO: The top two attackers on the QU squad are not separated by much. Sophomore middle Jarrod Kelso (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) has 214 kills (2.33 per set) while junior opposite Jack Gamache (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell Central) has 209 kills (2.35 per set). Kelso is second in the MIVA, hitting .379 for the season.
