Hawks Dominant in Wednesday's Home Exhibition

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team swept Lincoln (IL) College in an exhibition match on Wednesday (March 4) night at Pepsi Arena, 25-21, 25-15, 25-15.

The Hawks out-killed the Lynx, 47-17, in the match and overwhelmed the visitors on both sides of the net. Quincy hit .398 as a team and limited Lincoln to a .177 hitting percentage. The Hawks also put down eight aces in the sweep.

Sophomore middle Zach Hesterberg (St. Peters, Mo./Fort Zumwalt South) led the Hawks with eight kills (.538) on 13 swings. Ten Quincy players had at least three kills in the match as head coach Hadley Foster used the exhibition setting to get many of his reserves game action.

Junior outside Ben Thomas (Placerville, Calif./El Dorado) racked up five kills in Set 1 alone on eight attacks. Senior John Pranger (Edwardsville, Ill.) also added five kills. Sophomore setter Thane Fanfulik (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) dished out 40 assists to go with two kills and two aces.

Sophomore outside Kurtwood Greene (Nassau, Bahamas/Mt. Carmel Prep), junior opposite Jack Gamache (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell Central), junior outside Ian Lawson (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) and redshirt-junior outside Brian Rogan (St. Louis, Mo./Francis Howell North) all had four kills apiece.

The Quincy serve was dominant as the Lynx managed sideouts on just 51.4 percent (38-for-74) of Quincy's services. The Hawks, meanwhile, scored on 75 percent (39-for-52) of Lincoln's serves.

Wes Higgenbotham led the Lynx with seven kills (.636) and did not commit an error on 11 attacks. He also had five blocks, including two solo. The Lynx had a 7-2 advantage on blocks in the match.

The Hawks will return to the floor on Thursday (March 5) night when they take on Hannibal-LaGrange at 7 p.m. at Pepsi Arena in regular season, nonconference action.
