Quincy Game Notes (.pdf)

THE "HOME" STRETCH: The Quincy University men's volleyball team enters the final third of the season this weekend, and those matches can accurately be called the "home" stretch. The Hawks play eight of their final nine matches will be played in the friendly confines of Pepsi Arena, beginning with Friday and Saturday's Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association matches against IPFW and No. 14 Ball State.

TIME OFF: These will be the Hawks' first matches in over two weeks and their first conference contests since Feb. 28. The last time the Hawks took the floor was March 5 when they took down Hannibal-LaGrange in four sets at Pepsi Arena.

KELSO LEAGUE LEADER: QU sophomore middle blocker Jarrod Kelso (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) has been the most efficient hitter in the MIVA this season, leading the conference in hitting percentage with a .409 mark that also ranks fifth in the country. The 6-foot-7 Kelso played very well in Quincy's last MIVA weekend, hitting .462 (16-4-26) against the nation's top two teams, Loyola Chicago and Lewis. He put down a career-high 19 kills in a 3-2 win over Grand Canyon on Feb. 20, hitting .519 in that match.

ON THE BACK ROW: Freshman libero Simon Bruckner (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) has found a role in the starting lineup with his play this season. He ranks third in the conference in digs per set (2.19) and is second on the team (among players with at least 30 digs) in dig-to-kill percentage (.305) – behind only junior outside Brian Rogan (St. Louis, Mo./Francis Howell North).

LEFTY SWINGER: Junior opposite hitter Jack Gamache (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell Central) leads the Hawks in kills per set (2.41) and is just three off Kelso's pace in total kills (157 to 154). Gamache is hitting a career-high .239 from his opposite side position. He avearaged 2.86 kills per set in a five-match stretch from Feb. 8-21.

OFFENSIVE EFFICIENCY: The Hawks are hitting .235 as a team this season, their highest attack percentage since the 2011 season when they connected at a .250 rate.
